Accessing Aged & Home Support Services
With demand for Aged Care and Home Support Services from LGBTI people increasing, so too is the need for ageing and care services to be able to meet these needs in a culturally sensitive manner.
There are organisations and services that are taking a pro-active step towards better understanding and inclusion for older LGBTI people’s needs. Some are doing this by way of ensuring their staff receive awareness and sensitivity training, hiring of LGBTI workers, changing and developing policies that are inclusive of LGBTI people.
LGBTI Home Care Packages
It’s OK to ask for a bit of help around your home. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance – you are entitled to it and it helps you stay in your home for as long as possible.
As part of the changes to the Aged Care Sector and to ensure people are receiving the support they need, there are Home Care Packages available to older people and specifically for people who identify as LGBTI. These packages are only available through a few organisations in South Australia.
Our LGBTI Over 50’s program runs information sessions for the community about the LGBTI Home Care Packages a few times each year, in conjunction with one of the organisations providing these packages.
If you would like to attend a seminar, or require information about services that support older LGBTI people or have LGBTI Home Care Packages, as well as what questions you should ask of an Aged Care provider, please contact Paul, our LGBTI Community Development Worker by filling out the form below or call as at 8168 8723 for a confidential chat.
